API announce internship placements to develop young talent in UK manufacturing
Brand enhancement specialist API Group announce two chemical engineering internships at its Livingston site as it leads the way in developing and nurturing young talent within the manufacturing industry.
Working in partnership with one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the UK, API will place two 5th year Chemical Engineering students in internships at their manufacturing site in Livingston, Scotland. The interns join API for a period of six months as they work towards gaining their Masters of Engineering degree (MEng) with the University of Edinburgh.
The students will be tasked with applying academic learning in a real manufacturing environment, across the Operational Excellence and Engineering departments. In addition to gaining an in-depth understanding of these departments, the interns will gain a wider understanding of the API business and the opportunity to work and contribute to a company with a long history.
Sean Harley, Director of Site Operations says, ‘It is vital that we as a global organisation invest in the development of local young talent to the manufacturing industry in Scotland. It is also a great opportunity for us to engage with The University of Edinburgh as we work together in developing the careers of the next generation of leaders. I’m excited about our new internship programme and look forward to working with Drew and Heather over the next 6 months.’
Operational Excellence Manager, Brian French says ‘The internship program is an excellent and positive opportunity for API to provide the students with real-world, business critical projects. This experience will be beneficial to API, but will also catalyse the process of developing Drew and Heather as they approach the start of their career. I am sure that these will be full, enjoyable and beneficial Master’s Projects.’
API has a strong commitment to continuous improvement, guided by the Steel Business System. This internship programme will link directly to the business objectives of the site, by utilising methodologies that form our improvements programme. The internships also feed into the objectives of the SteelGROW program to build the talent pipeline and bring in a mix of talented professionals to complement and learn from current employees.
